We're seeing an increase in calls about heating issues. Please check our advice on how to get your boiler working, before you get in touch with us.

If two or more people are listed on your tenancy agreement, then you have a joint tenancy.

In some circumstances, you can ask our permission to remove someone from a tenancy agreement.

This changes your tenancy from a joint tenancy into a sole tenancy. By removing someone from your tenancy agreement, you become solely responsible for and entitled to the tenancy.

Before you decide

It’s really important to understand the following before applying for a sole tenancy:

  • if we agree to allow you to have a new sole tenancy, this may mean that you are given a different type of agreement to what you currently have.
  • before we give you a new tenancy, we will also review the rent that you pay which may result in an increase.
  • remember that if you decide you would like to change back from a joint tenancy to a sole tenancy, you would need to request our permission again and we are not under any obligation to agree to your request.
  • we recommend that you seek independent or legal advice before proceeding with adding someone to your tenancy.

How to make the request

After you’ve told us, your neighbourhood coach will review your request.
If you don't have an online account, you can register for an account or speak to your neighbourhood coach.
