June is an inspiration

A retired nurse, June gives up a few hours a week to offer help and friendship to people who are less fortunate than her by volunteering as a Winter Buddy.

At 70 years-old, June has recently applied for a passport for the first time in her life and is looking forward to October when she will be taking part in a Jaguar safari … in Brazil.

As much as she enjoys helping others, June is the first to admit that the decision to become a Winter Buddy was not a completely altruistic one.

June’s husband passed away last year, leaving a huge gap in her life. She was worried about facing the winter without any structure and focus and the opportunity to get involved with the Winter Buddies scheme has helped her to get through the last few months whist helping others.
