Birthday treat for new shared ownership customer

“It was the best telephone call I’ve ever received,” explains overjoyed mum-of-one Cheryl Greenwood as she picked up the keys to her new Bromford shared ownership home.

The 41-year-old exchanged contracts on her new 2-bed mid terrace home at Wychbury Fields, Hagley, on her birthday in an unexpected turn of events and said the whole process had been a bit surreal.

“I’ve rented privately ever since leaving my mum’s and then I met Stuart and we had carried on renting and it was just so hard to save enough money for a deposit especially after getting married and then the little one coming along.”

One evening the husband and wife were talking about shared ownership and did a Google search to find out more. Cheryl ended up on the Bromford website and after being impressed by what she saw, applied for the last remaining property at Wychbury Fields – where Bromford have recently completed a 71-home development including 43 one, two, and three bed homes for shared ownership.

“It said it was the last one so when I applied it was more out of hope than expectation,” she admitted.

“Then one day I had a call off Harj (sales consultant) to congratulate me and that we were going to be offered the property – I think I was utterly speechless, I just couldn’t believe it. I honestly thought we would be renting for the rest of our lives.

“It was simply the best telephone call I’ve ever received because nothing good like this usually happens for me. Ever since that point the process has been so straightforward and that is thanks to Harj and Bromford.”

The couple along with their little lad Aaron, 6, moved in on Saturday 2 November after securing a 25% share and are looking forward to sharing their first Christmas together in their new home.

Cheryl added: “Shared ownership is such a fantastic way to get on to the property ladder. It has left us feeling so much more secure and unlike our rented properties we’ll be able to furnish and redecorate it and make it a true home just in time for Christmas.”
