A new survey into the biggest building housing associations has revealed we’re in top five for the number of new homes built for social rent.

Inside Housing last week published its annual Top 50 Biggest Builders 2020 list which names the housing associations who have built the most homes over the past year and how many each association is aiming to build over the year ahead. In the 12 months to March 2020, we built 1,027 homes of all tenures, which placed us 14th highest in the country.

However, we were ranked fifth by having one of the biggest programmes of homes developed for social rent, as 320 of the homes we built last year were of this tenure, 31% of our total.
Looking forward we’re on course to return to the top ten overall builders again next year, as we were ranked 9th on the list of number of homes we’re expecting to complete in 2020/21.

Development director Amanda Swann said: “Our strategy makes it very clear that our purpose is to invest in and provide affordable homes so families have a safe, secure, warm place to call home. We’re proud to again be recognised as one of the biggest builders of social housing in the country and its brilliant to see such a high proportion of those homes being for social rent.

“We were expecting to build slightly more homes across the last year, but as construction sites shut down due to the coronavirus lockdown some have been delayed. However, all our sites are now open again and we have started work on new sites such as Ipsley Street in Redditch and secured planning permission for our first off-site MMC homes in Winchcombe.

“And with funding secured for our future development aspirations we’re confident we’ll meet our strategy goal to build 6,500 new homes by 2023.”
