Bulldozers move in as regeneration scheme progresses
This is the moment demolition work reaches an advanced stage at a Staffordshire regeneration scheme which is seeing a multi-million pound investment in the local area.
After planning permission was granted in February, Bromford is now bulldozing 10 homes on Levett Road, in Packington, before replacing them with 24 brand new energy efficient ones as part of a £3.5m regeneration project set to breathe new life into the area.
The site, adjacent to Whittington Barracks, will now provide a range of two and three-bedroom homes – 16 affordable rent and eight shared ownership properties. Bromford’s in-house construction team along with a team of contractors is currently clearing the area which also involved stripping the properties, removing asbestos and flattening the adjacent garages. Construction work will start on site in September once the demolition has been completed.
The homes now being knocked down were made from a concrete, non-traditional construction which meant they had a poor energy efficient rating and were costly to heat and run. As part of an asset management strategy designed to build and provide the right homes for all customers, Bromford decided the best option was to regenerate the site and have been working closely with residents and neighbours since the plans were announced in March 2016.
Customers have been supported to find new homes where they wanted to live and have been offered the opportunity to return to the new properties, which are part funded by grants from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Lichfield District Council, once they are built.
