Hundreds of people have registered their interest in a new £12m retirement living complex in the heart of Banbury town centre, new figures have shown.

Bromford says around 240 people have signalled their interest in Park Gardens – a scheme on Bath Road, adjacent to People’s Park, which will feature 78 retirement living homes built exclusively for over 55s with options for rent and purchase. Construction on the four-storey development is on track for a January 2019 finish with new residents moving in from spring that year.

Two sales and information days were held recently with more than 60 people attending. And a coach trip will see dozens of prospective customers visit another of Bromford’s newly-opened schemes in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, later this month to show them what life is like in a retirement living community.

Adrienne Larner, 73, one of six people to have already reserved an apartment at Park Gardens, said: “I think Park Gardens is ideal for over 55s because it addresses the problem of loneliness that a lot of older people feel in later life. But it is also new and clean and the activities and companionship will undoubtedly help to keep people healthier for longer.”

Reassured

Park Gardens is being built on land previously belonging to Banbury and Bicester College and includes a range of on-site facilities including a café bistro and bar, lounge, activity studio, gym and hair and beauty salon. The college, which is part of Activate Learning, made the land available after relocating its media and motor vehicle facilities to a new, £6m centre, on the opposite side of Broughton Road more than three and a half years ago.

Sales and marketing director, Penny Downing, said: “We truly believe Park Gardens will give people a new zest for life. There will be lots of facilities on site for people to stay fit, active and healthy but there will also be onsite care and support for residents that need it.

“We know it’s a big step for people and we want people to feel reassured and energised throughout the whole process and take that fear factor away for them. That’s why we want to take the time for prospective residents to get to know us and to show them the reality of retirement living at Bromford by visiting another of our brand new developments in the Midlands.

“We’re delighted by the interest being shown with six customers already reserved and it just reinforces our belief that our new retirement living homes will become popular fixtures in our communities, combining bespoke care packages with a vibrant and lively place to live and grow.”
