Construction work at a Staffordshire regeneration scheme has reached a major milestone as the first roof tiles were added as part of the multi-million pound project.

Development at Levett Road, in Packington near Lichfield, is seeing 21 brand new energy efficient homes built after 12 older properties were bulldozed last July. It is part of our inaugural regeneration programme which is seeing £3.5m invested to breathe new life into the area. Our second regeneration project, at Clifton Campville, also received planning permission earlier this month and is set to commence in early 2019.

The Paddocks, as the new development at Levett Road will be known, will provide a range of two and three-bedroom homes – 13 for affordable rent and eight shared ownership.

Bromford’s construction team was involved in clearing the former site and now a team of contractors have reached the stage where roof tiles have been added to the first two properties, with a further six homes to have roof tiles added next week. The site is being developed in phases with the far end of the site waiting for brickwork to start ahead of an overall November completion date.

Regeneration

The site, close to Whittington Barracks, was previously home to properties which were made from a concrete, non-traditional construction meaning they had a poor energy efficient rating and were costly to heat and run. As part of an asset management strategy designed to build and provide the right homes for all customers, we decided the best option was to regenerate the site and have been working closely with residents and neighbours since the plans were announced in March 2016.

Head of locality Suzanne Shead said: “We are committed to providing each of our customers with a high quality home that meets their needs and felt that Levett Road provided us with a fantastic opportunity to regenerate these homes and invest in the area. This is just the first of a series of regeneration schemes earmarked for Staffordshire and we know the Paddocks will bring tangible benefits not just to our customers but also the wider community.

“It’s very exciting to see the homes start to take shape and we know they will meet a real local demand both for affordable rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”
