A derelict former garage site has been totally transformed after we completed the construction of our latest affordable homes.
We’ve completed 16 new homes on the site of a former rank of garages in Beaufort Road in Downend in South Gloucestershire. The new homes are a mix of flats and semi-detached houses and included two homes which will be sold through our shared ownership scheme. They formed part of a larger development of 21 new homes built across two sites in Downend with our partners United Living. Five homes built on the site of a former bungalow and garage in nearby Beaufort Road were completed earlier in the year.
Development Officer Natalie Mann said: “It’s been amazing to see how over the past year this site has been completely changed from a derelict site which was a hot spot for anti-social behaviour, to these fantastic new properties which will be home to 60 people.
“It’s quite a modern site; they are really nice homes. I think they look different from normal social housing properties. The flats are spacey and a really good size and I think people will be very happy living there.”
The development was part-financed with £600,000 from the Homes and Community Agency.
So far this financial year we’ve completed 725 new homes, and are expecting to complete a further 665 by the end of March. Over the next ten years our goal is to build 15,000 homes across the Midlands and south west.
