Moe’s life took a dramatic turn after a coma led to lifelong health conditions. With the support of Bromford’s neighbourhood coaching and a safe home, Moe rebuilt his life by creating life-size model robots, transforming challenges into opportunities.
Aged 20, Moe’s life transformed when he was diagnosed with meningitis and tuberculosis, leading to a month-long coma. During his recovery, he discovered a newfound passion for carpentry and found himself more creative than he had ever been before the coma. This creativity became both a creative outlet and a career. Then, Moe began to experience increasing blackouts linked to complications from the coma.
“I was having accidents, blackouts” Moe recalls. “I would just open my eyes, and the top of my fingers would be cut.”. Due to these risks, his doctor advised him to stop his work as a self-employed carpenter, leaving Moe uncertain about his future.
Bromford, as Moe’s landlord, uses a coaching approach that treats each customer as an individual, acknowledging that a one-size-fits-all method doesn't work. Moe's Neighbourhood Coach stepped in during this difficult time, helping Moe set up a workshop in his home and encouraging him to explore new possibilities. This support became central to his recovery, leading Moe to build life-size robots inspired by his favourite sci-fi movies.
“I decided to start building my favourite replica robots from my favourite movies” Moe says. “I'm no longer a self-employed carpenter, but the time and space given to create the models is opening up an avenue for a financial stream.”
For Moe, having a safe and secure home with the flexibility to include a workshop became the foundation for a fresh start enabling him to focus on his craft, adapt to his circumstances, and create new opportunities to support his family.
Moe’s story highlights the importance of a safe, warm, and secure home—a foundation that allows people to rebuild and thrive. The right home in the right place with the right support can make all the difference.
