Residents living in and around two South Gloucestershire streets are being consulted on plans to replace them with modern, energy efficient homes.
We're proposing to redevelop properties in Barrington Close and Fairford Close and on Wednesday we invited residents and local councillors to view the plans for the estate’s regeneration. Under our plans the existing properties will be replaced with 85 new affordable homes, made up of a mix of one-bedroom flats, two-bedroom maisonettes and two, three and four-bedroom houses.
Project manager Noreen Twomey said: “We’re pleased to be able to show our plans for the new homes we are proposing to build in Kingswood. It’s a challenging site as there’s quite a steep gradient from the top to the bottom but we think our plans offer a substantial improvement on the existing properties. We held a previous consultation with residents last year and have taken on board their comments in drawing up these latest plans.
“These types of buildings are prone to experiencing damp and draughts and are increasingly expensive for customers to keep warm. The blocks themselves suffers from fundamental design issues such as dead ends, parking courtyards that are not overlooked, reduced daylight to some properties due to tall retaining walls close to windows and unusable gardens due to steep steps, retaining walls or slopes. After assessing the blocks it became clear that the best option would be to replace them with modern homes, that are fit for the 21st Century.
“We appreciate that some of our existing customers may have concerns about our plans, which is why we have been meeting with them over the past few months to explain how we will support them to find and move into a new home. We have already found new homes for some customers and are continuing to support the remaining customers to find somewhere new to live.”

We will take on board all comments received during the consultation before submitting its plans to South Gloucestershire Council later this autumn. Subject to receiving planning permission the housing association hopes to begin work on site in 2024.
