Our homes at The Steadings have been specifically built to meet the needs of local people and priority will be given to applicants who have a connection to South Staffordshire Council.

The local area connection can vary between our developments but generally, it is based on you having been a resident (or employed within) the area for a number of years (usually between 2-5) or have family connections – for example, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild or adult sibling – who have lived in the area for at least three years.

Staircasing to own 100% of your home at The Steadings
Our homes at The Steadings are available to purchase from 25% to 75% shared ownership. Once your home is purchased you will have the option to increase the amount of your shared ownership home that you own. This is called Staircasing.

The greater the share you buy in your home the less rent you will pay to your home. Ultimately staircasing to buy 100% of your home, means you become an outright owner, and you will no longer need to pay rent.

Council tax and lease information
Please be advised that this property is Leasehold with a 125 year lease. Service charge is reviewed annually in line with inflation.

The Steadings local area

Just off the M6, and with strong transports links to the local towns of Wolverhampton, Lichfield and Cannock, Essington is an ideal base for commuters.

The village’s idyllic rural location in the Staffordshire countryside makes it the perfect spot for those fond of country hiking and outdoor pursuits, but there’s plenty for lovers of film, theatre, and sport too.

The picturesque Brownshore Lakes, known locally as ‘the pools’ are less than a mile* away.  With its wildlife-rich surrounding woodland, it’s the ideal place to come for a gentle walk, a picnic and even a spot of fishing. Cannock Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is just eight miles away and a popular spot for mountain bikers and horse riders alike.

There’s plenty for the kids too, with a Gruffalo trail and a choice of two Go Ape adventure activities on offer. Culture vultures will love Wolverhampton’s independent cinema, Art Gallery and Grand Theatre, which attracts a wide range of major touring productions – all just five miles away.

For multi-screen cinema, head to Bentley Bridge, four miles away. For shopping, locals choose between the shopping centre at Cannock and two more in Wolverhampton, all within a seven mile radius. For true shopaholics, Birmingham city centre offers world-class shopping, just 16 miles away.

Health
Local health services can be accessed at Essington Medical Centre, less than half a mile away. The surgery offers an online appointment booking facility, electronic prescription service and a mix of male and female GP staff. The nearest A&E department is located three miles away at New Cross Hospital. The hospital is part of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust which provides a comprehensive range of community, acute and specialist health services. Additionally, there is a minor injuries unit seven miles away, at Cannock Chase Hospital. There are six dental practices within a two mile radius, with the majority accepting new NHS patients. Last but not least, there are numerous well reviewed veterinary centres within a 10 minute drive and even a 24/7 Accident & Emergency department at St George’s Hospital in Wolverhampton. This is a state-of-the-art facility and one of only a handful in the country that has a vet and nursing team on-site 24 hours a day.

Education
The Steadings has a great selection of well-regarded primary and secondary schools within a five mile radius. The most local school is St Johns Primary Academy which takes children from 3-11 years of age. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular clubs as well as wraparound care, and a pre-school nursery too. Secondary Schools include Coppice Performing Arts School, which takes nearly 1000 pupils of 11-18 years, and is located three miles away. The school has excellent facilities for art, technology, sport, drama, and music, including its own recording studios. Other options include Heath Park, four miles away in Wolverhampton, and Walsall Academy, four miles away in Bloxwich. Families with young adults, or individuals wishing to study as a mature student, will be pleased to learn that nearby Birmingham is the UK’s largest centre of higher education outside London, and home to five universities, including the prestigious red brick University of Birmingham.

Transport
Essington is located in Staffordshire, five miles north-east of Wolverhampton and 15 miles south of Stafford. The village is well served by the M54 and M6 motorways, meaning that the vibrant cities of Birmingham, Nottingham and even Sheffield, Manchester, and Liverpool are commutable. Local bus services connect Essington with Cannock and Wolverhampton, including stops at the main schools and at New Cross Hospital. The nearest railway stations are located three miles away at Bloxwich and Landywood, putting residents within reach of Birmingham city centre (30 minutes) and Stafford (1 hour). For domestic and international air travel, Birmingham Airport is just 40 minutes away.
