Neil Evans (left) picked up the prestigious award for his work at Ramblers Gate alongside Neal Moore (right). The site manager overseeing a Worcestershire development has been named as a winner of the NHBC’s Pride in the Job award for 2023.

Neil Evans who runs our operations at our 57-home Ramblers Gate scheme in Stourport-on-Severn, was celebrated as a site manager who has achieved the very highest standards in homebuilding. Awarded for his work alongside co-manager Neal Moore, Neil has been recognised as exceptional by one of the UK’s most prestigious home-building competitions.

On achieving the accolade, Neil Evans, said:

I was very pleased and humbled to be awarded a Pride in the Job award, and this is testament to the work that Neal and the team have put into to ensure excellent standards here at Ramblers Gate.

This year has been a great challenge, which we have all risen to, by keeping optimistic, with a healthy professional respect on site with a number of contractors operating at any one time.

You can’t achieve top results without great communication, and being open and respectful with everybody on site has certainly helped to deliver the best.

Overseeing the development on Pearl Lane, the manager has looked after over 50 contractors, setting and maintaining the highest possible standards among bricklayers and groundworkers among other trades.

This year, 444 site managers received the award across the UK, with Neil only one of 38 people in the NHBC’s west region to be recognised for excellence.

Neal Moore added:

We have faced many challenges this year, including terrible weather in the early months.

As a team, we have stuck together and worked through everything methodically to deliver quality homes. As a workforce we understand that the final product is somebody’s home, meaning we take pride in delivering to the highest possible standard.

We have also instilled a culture of openness and honesty around standards, meaning nobody is fearful of voicing their opinion if they feel something has not been done properly. I’d like to thank everybody involved on the Ramblers Gate site for contributing towards this award.

The expertise across a wide-range of responsibilities exhibited by Neil, Neal and the team meant that the development was recognised as one of the few to scoop this sought after accolade.

Head of construction, Simon Kershaw, said:

Our site managers are incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of home building, and the standards set and maintained at Ramblers Gate are incredibly high.

Neil, Neal and the team operate under a strong culture of excellence, quality and precision across the whole development process, with attention to detail at the heart of it.

These high standards help us strive for excellence across all of our developments.

Commenting on the awards, Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC said: “Congratulations to all the winners who should feel proud to have received a Pride in the Job Award. Pride in the Job is firmly at the heart of NHBC’s mission to raise standards in the housing industry. It is important we recognise the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards. This accolade recognises the best site managers across the UK and celebrates how much Neil has inspired his team by going the extra mile to deliver homes of the highest quality.”

Pride in the Job Quality Awards winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards, which will be announced in autumn. The national Supreme Awards will then be revealed in January 2024. This is the second year in a row one of our colleagues has been recognised with a NHBC Pride in the Job award, after Pat O'Hara received the award in 2022.
